Christmas at Sentry Hill

Enjoy a flavour of a Victorian Christmas at Sentry Hill, The History House, on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December between 10am and 4pm.

See the house decorated in traditional style, the table laid for Christmas dinner, and meet the house staff who will guide you through what Christmas was like for the McKinney family, who lived at Sentry Hill. Cook will tell you about Christmas food at the time for different levels of Victorian society from the laboring families, through families like the McKinneys right up to the Queen in Windsor Castle and explain the use of spices in food for preservation with maybe a sample or two for you to try.

You will also be able to meet the Housekeeper and help her to make decorations for the Christmas tree in the Parlour while she explains the origins of our Christmas traditions and decorations and shows the types of gifts that would have been given between family members in Victorian times.

There will also be opportunities to see a wood carver at work making Christmas toys, play with traditional toys and make a cornucopia.

Creating even more atmosphere will be traditional Christmas music and carols with Ballyduff Band playing on both afternoons from 2pm, and the Decibelles singing at lunchtime on Sunday.

Top it off with a cup of tea or coffee or a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie.

There is a charge of £1.25 for each ticket with proceeds going to the Mayor’s charities, and, as space is limited, pre-booking is essential. Timed slots are available at 10am, 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm each day so please call 0300 123 77 88 to book your slot.
