SYNOPSIS

BLOODTIES by Elaine Birket
The play centres on a wealthy family in Mississippi. They own a plantation and a wood mill. Adeline Burnham is the matriarch. Her brother, Roy Burnham, is a lush who comes home to visit and show off his fiancée, Celia Williams, whom he met in Louisiana, where he lives the high life on the pretence, he is building relations for his Father’s business.

When two women, both called Lisa, meet for the first time. They come to realize they have more in common than just a name!

In the distant mists of the past there is a small village. Each morning the Baker bakes his bread and brings it to the market, where he trades it for fish, milk, eggs etc – all the things that his family needs. It’s a barter system where everybody contributes, and nobody misses out. One day a mysterious stranger arrives. He has nothing to trade. Instead, he offers to pay with … coin. What effect will the introduction of this new “coin” have?

Mary-Ann Twomey has poisoned and killed five people. Her barrister needs to know is she is defending someone who is insane or just evil. So, it falls to Dr Vincent, a psychiatrist, to make an assessment and discover the truth about what drove Mary-Ann to murder.
