Pastelmat paper - Card pad number 2 - available from amazon.
Currently around £22 for a 30cmx 24cm sized pad in colours; White, Sienna, Brown and Anthracite - yes it is dearer than some other papers but is strongly recommended. It holds a lot of layers of pastel without the need for fixative and produces beautiful effects. In these pads there is a sheet of glassine paper between each pastelmat sheet which can be used to protect your work. I can also show you how the choice of base colour can influence the final artwork, so it is good to work on a variety of colours before finding a favourite. Cheaper pastel papers do not hold as much pastel and cannot take water washes.
Soft pastels - as a beginning set, I recommend Inscribe pastels the set with 64 colours. They are available on amazon for around £12. They have a variety of colours and a good level of softness. They mix well with each other. Bring others if you already have them, including pastel-pencils as these can also be useful. Please be sure not to bring or buy oil pastels for this course.
Microfibre cloth to keep your hands clean between colours. Apron or tea towel for keeping yourself/clothes clean.
